The name of the band, Crosstown Traffic Band, indicates that it was formed during the uprise of the 'flower power' music; the music that we play include covers from artists like Joe Cocker, Carlos Santana, Doobie Brothers, Mana, Earth Wind and Fire, Sting, Tina Turner, Isley Brothers.
The band was formed by six friends, four of whom are still with the group, to perform in school parties and family gatherings. As the years went by the group went on to become one of the most popular bands on the island of Curacao and performed in all popular cafes and nightclubs on the island. Due to the influences of all surrounding islands and countries the band is in a position to perform various types of music such as salsa, merengue, besides the classic rock music.
The band is now focusing on performing in international music events (either as primary or pre-show act); in August 2007 the band performed in the pre-show of Marco Antonio Solis in the Curacao Festival Centre; in April 2008 we performed in the pre-show of Jorge Celedon; other similar performances are scheduled later during the year. Although all members of the band have other full time employment commitments, the "performance readiness" is upheld through weekly or bi-weekly rehearsals of selected parts of the repertoire of the band. In May 2011 the band performed with Percy Sledge for a special Mothers' day event in the Avila Hotel in Curacao.
The band is based on the island of Curacao (Caribbean). We perform a variety of rock, funk, reggae, and soul of popular 70s and 80s artists, as well as latin rock music (Santana, Mana). Success of the band lies in the 34 years of friendship of the band members, and its 6-horn brass section led by Dennis Aalse.
